Item BRANDING IN A TIME OF CRISIS: THE FOUNDATION OF CREDIBLE, CRISIS-RESILIENT AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Papp-Váry, Árpád; Lukács, RitaThe aim of this paper is to review the changes in brand strategies as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic situation and the changes in customers’ preferences as a result of the lockdowns. During the pandemic, brands found hemselves in a difficult situation, as they were not sure at the time of the first closure what the best solution would be in terms of customer satisfaction: to stop marketing campaigns, continue them without any changes or adapt to the situation. Since then, consumer research reports have shown that what people needed the most was being surrounded by brands being part of their daily lives to provide predictability and certainty – often even replacing slow-responding governments in providing information. Our paper will summarize the main findings of recent consumer research on this topic and highlight the best practices of brands that have successfully demonstrated their credibility, crisis resilience, and social responsibility in the eyes of their customers.Item CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD TOUCHPOINTS AND THEIR IMPORTANCE FOR GERMAN FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Joerchel, SebastianAll German financial service providers work with omnichannel marketing and try to support the classic, traditional sales channel. This paper will help to understand and assess the relevance of digital touchpoints on the way to digital sales. Through targeted interviews and surveys, it will present the relevance of digital touchpoints and deduce how these digital touchpoints influence the customer in choosing a sales channel. Influencing factors will be shown and typologies of determinants will be highlighted that have an impact on the choice of sales channel. The results of the work can be used to devise sales and marketing strategies for managing customers.Item DEVELOPING ENVIRONMENTAL AWRENESS AMONG YOUNG SCHOOLCHILDREN(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Neszt, JuditIn the following we present a part of an environmental awareness programme developed for the lower primary school. An important element of the programme is the playful introduction of knowledge, exploration and action-based involvement, which not only changed the children's attitudes but also their patterns of action. They have been able to find information on the topic independently and to see the connections between the local and the global. They recognised bad routines and were able to transform the actions of themselves and their surroundings for a more sustainable future.Item DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE BLACK SEA REGION AND MARKETING SOLUTIONS FOR THE ACTIVITY(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Ruseva, VilyanaIn recent decades, there has been an emerging growth in socially engaged activities, both nationally and internationally. The basic reasons for this activity are the division between the social strata in society and the deepening of the problems of vulnerable groups. Based on the analysis, the need for application of specific business and marketing approaches for effective implementation and promotion of activities related to the cause. This report aims to clarify the nature of the need for social entrepreneurship and its forms of manifestation, as well as how businesses and the community in the face of local and state government are committed to a new kind of concept of social economy. The report is dedicated to the organizations of similar type, positioned in the Black Sea region (South and North) with administrative centers of Burgas and Varna and in particular to specific organizations with social profile, which both fulfill their commitment to vulnerable groups, but also have become an emblem of the Black Sea cities.Item DIGITAL MATURITY AND ITS INFLUENCE ON COPORATE CULTURES(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Schröder, Diana-MarieThis research paper complements existing research approaches regarding the digital maturity level of companies. Furthermore, this research approach complements existing research findings. In terms of content, it relates the dimensions of individuals in companies, teams, leadership behavior, and corporate culture. In particular, the interaction between corporate culture and leadership behavior is the focus of this research approach against the backdrop of the digital maturity level. This research approach presents a matrix classification of companies according to four company typologies. This matrix enables companies to be classified and assessed in terms of their leadership behavior and digital maturity level. In addition, this research paper already shows the first qualitative interim research results and results of the evaluations of one type of company defined in the theoretical part of this research.Item DIGITAL VALUE CHAINS – AN EXPLORATORY STUDY OF THE PHARMA AND HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Rueckold, ChristianThis research assesses what impacts digital solutions can have in the value chains of the pharma and healthcare industry once being used across different players. As research in this area is yet emerging, research was conducted via mixed methods/ triangulation approach, reviewing state of the art literature, expert interviews with ten experts in pharma and healthcare and case studies of six digital solution examples in practice. The research could validate that tracking seems to be an important topic but also gave indication that pharma players will move closer to patients and can improve their innovation cycles. Additionally, it provides insights on the potential evolution of value chain players and their offerings which will relate much more to personalised treatments and services.Item DIGITALIZATION IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Roters, StefanDigitalization is disrupting the automotive industry and in particular the established business models of well-known OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer). New legislations, technological trends, the omnipresence of digital devices like smartphones and changing customer preferences towards sustainability and mobility on demand have stimulated the digital transformation in the automotive industry. This process affects the entire value chain, from product design and manufacturing to supply chain, marketing and sales. New market players like Tesla, Uber and Blablacar have identified the huge potential of digitalization to create new revenue pools and have already entered the market with their interconnected solutions. Other tech. giants like Apple and Google but also smaller start-ups have started investigations around new mobility solutions. Those new competitors with their high innovation power have one strategic advantage. They do not have to carry the burden of an analogue set-up with its high fix cost structure compared to traditional car manufacturers. Therefore, established car manufacturers are forced to transform their analogue business models to the digital age. This research paper will analyze the prerequisites of a successful digital transformation. Furthermore, it will describe the potential to create business model innovations.Item ECONOMIC DIMENSION OF CHRONIC DISEASES - ASSESSMENT OF LOST PRODUCTIVITY IN THE BLACK SEA REGION(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Jakubowska, AgnieszkaThe subject of the study was to assess the level of lost productivity of human resources in the countries of the Black Sea region determined by poor health. The assumed analysis was carried out by assessing the intensity of the level of premature mortality of people in the working age caused by chronic diseases and its economic effects measured by the value of lost production. The assessment of the cost of lost productivity was based on the human capital method (HCM). The comparison of the value of the lost product in the analyzed group of countries showed large discrepancies resulting both from the differences in the scale of the burden of premature mortality in the working age population and from the adopted valuation of the work unit.Item FLIPPED CLASSROOM TEACHERS’ CONCEPTIONS IN PORTUGUESE HIGHER EDUCATION(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Piedade Vaz Rebelo; Graça Bidarra; Valentim Alferes; Carlos Reis; Carlos Barreira; István ZsigmondThis study aims to characterize conceptions of flipped classroom. Results from a survey to 58 Portuguese Higher Education teachers evidenced that approximately half of respondents defined the flipped classroom as a model where ´lectures are recorded as videos for students to view outside of class time freeing up time in class to engage in discussions and problem solving’. This points to core characteristics of flipped classroom as video lectures, student-centred learning, collaborative learning in-class activities. This is in line with answers to the open-ended question.Item FLIPPED CLASSROOM TRENDS IN BULGARIA: RESULTS FROM THE SURVEY(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Aleksieva, Mariya; Kotzeva, Tatyana; Mineva, Krasimira; Zhecheva, Veselina; Kirova, GerganaThis paper presents the results of the online survey of 97 faculty members from 27 universities in Bulgaria on the topic of the flipped classroom approach. The flipped classroom can be defined as a student-centered learning method, where the accent is on the new, active role of the student and on the collaborative way of learning. The aim of this first-of-its-kind survey was to investigate the experiences and opinions of university teachers regarding the use of the Flipped Classroom methods in Higher Education in Bulgaria as part of Intellectual Output 2 under the Erasmus+ programme KA2 funded project „Developing Flipped Methods for Teaching (DFM)”. The key findings from the survey concern the way university teachers implement the use of the flipped-classroom approach, the main barriers to not using the flip, the rating of experience with the new method, students’ feedback, etc.Item FLIPPED CLASSROOM TRENDS IN UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN SLOVAKIA(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Tóth-Bakos, Anita; Mészáros, Tímea; Szilárd, SvitekFlipped classroom method is a pedagogical approach in which the traditional concept of classroom-based learning process changes, students are already familiar with the teaching material before the lesson, so they can spend classroom time by activities and tasks facilitated and managed by the lecturer. The aim of the study is to present the results of a questionnaire survey mapping the application of the flipped classroom method in university education in Slovakia. For more than 100 years, team sport has been part of society and fascinates a large part of the population. No wonder, in Germany alone, there are more than 7 million club members. Sport often manages to connect people in a positive sense. Politics is left out, and the world is associated with many international games. Before Corona, only games of the 1st Bundesliga in Germany had more than 13 million spectators. However, a unique infrastructure is needed to handle the volume regardless of the entertainment concept. However, this came with the entrance of the Covid-19 Pandemic to the succumbing to strict restrictions like plays without spectators, which resulted in economic disadvantages and bottlenecks. No club was prepared for an international loss of this magnitude; thus, there were no solutions.Item MERGING GEOGLOWS MODEL AND DISCHARGE DATA FOR BIAS-CORRECTED CHARACTERISATION OF HYDROLOGY FOR SURVIVING STURGEON HABITAT ON RIVER RIONI IN GEORGIA, EASTERN BLACK SEA(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Gvilava, Mamuka; Bitsadze, Maka; Peradze, Nino; Gönner, TimmGeorgian river Rioni still hosts the last remaining sturgeon habitat in the Eastern Black Sea. WWF Caucasus Programme Office is undertaking efforts to conserve and potentially expand this critically important spawning area. Long-term hydrological data, such as daily discharge time series, is indispensable for characterising the entire river and this ecological site in particular. GEO Global Water Sustainability tool GEOGloWS was applied to derive long term (over 40 years) modelled streamflow time series for the stretch of interest at Rioni. Discharge data kindly provided by Vartsikhe Hydropower Cascade, was successfully used to bias-correct the global dataset and thus significantly expand time coverage against the period of available discharge data (10 years). Experience with merging some other global & local datasets is also reported in this work.Item OBJECTIVE CASUAL RELATIONSHIP OF CRIMINAL LIABILITY IN CRIMNINAL LAW BY OMISSION RELATED TO THE SEA(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Juszka, KarolThe aim of the article is to present objective casual relationship of criminal liability in criminal law by omission related to the sea. It is presented in three stages. First is qualifying the person as the guarantor of the non-replacement of the effect. Second is updating the perpetrator's obligation as guarantor. Third is failure to perform the perpetrator's obligation as guarantor. The use of the marine environment, taking into account the ecosystem approach and the principle of integrated management, improves the environment, biodiversity, development of maritime industry. The Government of Ukraine has approved the Marine Environmental Strategy in order to implement the provisions of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Ukrainian legislation. This is provided by the environmental block of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.Item ORGANIZING SUSTAINABILITY AT BANK LEVEL: RELEVANCE FOR BULGARIA AND GREECE(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Mavridis, PanagiotisToday, there is no dispute anymore that success for a business comes through the application of the principles of sustainability in all its aspects. The understanding of sustainability translates into the implementation of a holistic approach to the financial and overall management of a company. Banks are major players in the economy, and they are compelled to follow this approach. How is it to be applied in practice, however? The current paper aims at providing a high-level answer to this question by providing information and shedding light on the emerging ECB and international organizations standards and requirements and outlines their relevance for the banks in Bulgaria and in Greece.Item PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS TO ENSURE CUSTOMER CENTRIC BUSINESS MODELS AND AVOID MARKET SHARE LOSSES THROUGH DISRUPTION(Бургаски свободен университет, 2022) Bathija, AlwinThis publication is part of a broader examination with regards to digitalisation in the banking sector and the necessity of customer centric business models. The study also considers the importance of perpetual alignment between business models and customer needs to avoid market share losses. Furthermore, it focuses on newcomer in the market as non-/near-banks which could cause disruption. This research paper examines at the extent to which digitisation in the banking sector is needed and why customer centricity plays an important role as a competitive advantage in terms of market shares to avoid disruption. Customer data, digital ecosystems, and predictive analytics as foundation for customer centricity and trend setting will be described accordingly. This article presents recommendations for banks in terms of the foundation for customer centricity and why the use of predictive analytics is not a small project to implement. However, digitalisation in the banking sector is not only an ongoing trend, but also poses a significant challenge to most institutions. This article picks up on this and presents key challenges as well as opportunities for financial institutions to deal with it. An overview of the financial technology sector will be presented. It then takes a closer look at drivers for change, customer centricity, distribution channels, and customer needs. The link of predictive analytics and customer centricity will be outlined. The article is rounded off with a view on the future customer proposition. This article supports the wider objective of an elaboration to define a model to enable the banking industry conducting a continuous analysis of defined input factors and resulting from that changed customer behaviour to derive recommendations for action to change or keep the business model customer centric.
