PREDICTING CORPORATE MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS: THE CASE OF TURKEY
(Бургаски свободен университет, 2012) Aysa Ipek Erdogan
This study examines the financial variables that predict the merger and acquisition targets in Turkey. Cox regression with segmented time-dependent covariates is used to determine the factors that predict target companies for mergers and acquisitions. The firms that are analyzed are among the top 500 industrial enterprises in Turkey. We find that a lower pretax profit margin is associated with an increased chance of being a merger or an acquisition target. In addition, the lower the debt ratio, the more likely that the firm will be a target for a merger or an acquisition.

APPLYING FACTOR ANALYSIS ON THE FINANCIAL RATIOS OF TURKEY’S TOP 500 INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISES
(Бургаски свободен университет, 2012) Aysa Ipek Erdogan
Factor analysis is a method that is used to reduce several variables into fewer dimensions that are called factors. As a data reduction technique, it condenses the variables into weighted linear combinations of the variables. This study conducts factor analysis on the financial ratios of the top 500 industrial enterprises in Turkey for 2010. The purpose of the study is to group the financial ratios into categories and eliminate redundancy among them. Our results provide partial support for the textbook classification of financial ratios.
