Item CODES OF ETHICS VERSUS EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION: THE RESULTS OF CASE STUDY RESEARCH(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Kowalski, Kamil; Pieczewski, AndrzejThe aim of this article is to indicate possible relations between codes of ethics adopted in companies and organizations and the values actually expected by employees. The implementation of codes does not necessarily mean observance of the declared norms. There is an opinion in the literature that ethical codes are mainly aimed at improving the perception of the company on the market and thus indirectly serve to increase profits. Following the ethical norms by employers is important to the employees' perception of the work environment as fair or not, which in turn influences, inter alia, the level of their motivation and commitment. The authors, using the free (unstructured) interview method, interviewed 100 respondents of three organizations (one from the public sector and two from the private financial sector). The purpose of the interviews was to determine what values are appreciated most by employees in their workplace. The values were divided into several categories: fair wages, fair duty burden sharing, equal development opportunities, equal treatment of sexes, equal treatment by the chief, clear employee evaluation procedures, equal promotion opportunities, fair distribution of prizes. The results of the survey indicated that over 60% of employees pointed that fair wages policy and a fair share of duties are the most important from their point of view. An important issue was also the equal treatment of the sexes (11%). The rest of the factors were mentioned as significant by 5% (and fewer) of the respondents.Item COMMENTS ON THE THEORETICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL AND ISLAMIC BANKING(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Dimov, SavaThe author makes comments on the state of the problem in part of the Englishspeaking scientific thought. In the beginning, he points out the main thesis and prospects for the development of conventional and Islamic banking. The benchmark review continues with “A Modern Comparison of Western Banking to Islamic Banking”, information from the Council of Islamic Financial Services, comparative analyzes of Ahmad Al-smadi, AF Hamdan and Almsafir, M., Grimarenko, I. Ye., Jamaldeen, F., Mohamad, Sh., Hassan, T. and Bader, MK, Lake, Al. and Margolin, J. and in particular "The Hundred Differences Between Islamic and Conventional Banking Systems” by Basha, S.N. After all, the author reaches two important conclusions for his research.Item CREATING THE MODEL OF THE PRODUCT FEATURES AND BENEFITS AS THE BASIS OF MARKETING RESEARCH(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Aleksandrovna, UsachevaThe perception of the product as a composition of objective and subjective features, benefits and controlled parameters makes possible to take a closer look at the significance of specific attributes for the customer, to expand the possibilities and directions of competitive analysis and customize product offering. An original model is build not only for each product or service, but also for a specific product offering of a particular company.Item EMPRENDEVERDE: A CASE STUDY ON TRANSITION FROM BUSINESS INNOVATION TO SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Valenzuela, Jorge; Montoya, NazlySocial entrepreneurship has evolved in its design and implementation. The objective of this work is to present an innovative proposal that has benefited young rural entrepreneurs, through the business model called „Emprendeverde social marketer“, conceived and implemented by Minuto de Dios University Corporation UNIMINUTO and its extension unit, the Scientific Park of Social innovation (known by the Spanish acronym PCIS). Its purpose has been to support entrepreneurs with the generation of their first customer and business enhancement strategies. Social entrepreneurship is assumed theoretically, as an activity developed by a person or organization to solve social problems through Innovation and the development of business strategies in order to achieve Selfsustainability and the generation of social value. The research methodology is an exploratory case study. The results show that Emprendeverde, which is in its fifth year of existence, has evolved from problem assessment exercises, to the development of different business models and the possibility of becoming a spin off. During this period, it has supported the ideation and creation of 70 rural enterprises, 40 of them are still in operation and 30 have disappeared. These outcomes raise the need to re-direct its strategy, define gaps and action plans, particularly in social marketing, through networks (nodes, links and quantitative indicators), to enable it to scale up its services at the national and regional level, consolidating a strong and sustainable organization for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations in the agricultural sector.Item IMPACT INVESTING AND SOCIAL IMPACT BONDS(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Basílio, MariaImpact investing is growing at a fast pace as the world are being more aware of the tremendous social and environmental challenges. Impact investing are investments that are made on a market-structure approach, to generate a measurable social or environmental impact as well as a financial return. Among the different instruments used for impact investment, Social Impact Bonds appeared in 2010 to catalyse private funds to much needed social interventions. To address complex social problems like poverty, inequality and unemployment, the governments’ budgets are clearly insufficient and in the aftermaths of the 2008 financial crisis, these problems escalated. This innovative financing instrument become very popular because governments were very enthusiastic with the opportunity provided by SIBs to deliver better social services to the public without compromising public accounts and with this solution, overcoming overstretched budgets. Typical areas of SIBs application are education, social care, unemployment, criminal justice, health and homelessness. A SIB is a result of a public-private partnership. Public entities contract on a pay-for-success basis with a private sector intermediary. A relevant group of investors provides the upfront funding for the project. After raising the funds from private investors, a service provider contracts with the operator and is provided with the required capital and technical assistance in return. The interesting feature is the shift of responsibility from government to a service provider and the risk of failure to private investors. Only if the intervention has been successful, the government will pay for the outcome. Otherwise, if the program fails to meet agreed outcomes, investors will take the loss. However, SIBs must be seen as a complement rather than a substitute for public service delivery and funding, because SIBs entail significant transaction costs. Policy makers should evaluate carefully what is the value added for implementing a SIB for a policy intervention compared to a more traditional approach. The expected benefits obtained from SIBs are far from consensual and the results are mixed. Additionally, the majority of SIBs are in the early phase of implementation with limited evidence regarding their results. Further analysis is needed in order to develop a robust evidence base. Are SIBs an effective tool for long-term development? So far, SIBs have been implemented particularly in developed countries but its potential in emerging and developing countries is more promising. This paper discusses the promises and results of SIBs, the role of similar and more recent instruments such as Development Impact Bonds (DIBs) and Environmental Impact Bonds (EIBs) and its potential to contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.Item INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES IN TEACHING ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL DISCIPLINES(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Velinova-Sokolova, NadyaThe traditional teaching method is a book, a piece of chalk, a blackboard. The purpose of this article is to outline the problems in the development of the labor market at national and regional level. Based on the identified problems, specific recommendations are made to local authorities to overcome some negative trends. On the other hand, the levels of education and qualification of the economically active population on the territory of the country will be presented, thus attempting to focus on the main priorities of the central executive in terms of stimulating the long-term unemployed on the territory of the country. This process of stimulating the labor market requires the implementation of an active policy involving the development and implementation of a number of training and education programs, especially of those at risk, in order to get out of the long-term unemployed category and to be given the opportunity implementation, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable regional development based on knowledge and innovation.Item SCENARIOS IN STRESS TEST OF FINANCIAL SYSTEMS(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Koishibekov, Kairat; Койшибеков, КайратThe scientific material commented on the different perspectives for choosing scenarios for stress testing of financial systems. Emphasis is placed on the experience and proposals of the US Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, the National Banks of England and Kazakhstan. Stress testing involves running simulations to identify hidden vulnerabilities. The literature about business strategy and corporate governance identifies several approaches to these exercises. Among the most popular are stylized scenarios, hypotheticals and historical scenarios. In a historical scenario, the business - or asset class, portfolio, or individual investment - is run through a simulation based on a previous crisis. Examples of historical crises include the stock market crash of October 1987, the Asian crisis of 1997 and the tech bubble that burst in 1999-2000. A hypothetical stress test is generally more specific, often focusing on how a particular company might weather a particular crisis. For example, a firm in California might stress-test against a hypothetical earthquake or an oil company might do so against the outbreak of a war in the Middle East. Stylized scenarios are a little more scientific in the sense that only one or a few test variables are adjusted at once. For example, the stress test might involve the Dow Jones index losing 10% of its value in a week. The Federal Reserve Board conducts supervisory stress tests to help ensure that large bank holding companies operating in the United States will be able to lend to households and businesses even in a severe recession. The tests are known as the Dodd-Frank Act stress test (DFAST) and the Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR). The European Banking Authority (EBA) published the results of the 2018 EU-wide stress test, which involved 48 banks from 15 EU and EEA countries, covering broadly 70% of total EU banking sector assets. The adverse scenario has an impact of -395 bps on banks' CET1 fully loaded capital ratio (-410 bps on a transitional basis), leading to a 10.1% CET1 capital ratio at the end of 2020 (10.3% on a transitional basis). In the 2018 stress-test scenario, UK GDP falls by 4.7%, the UK unemployment rate rises to 9.5%, UK residential property prices fall by 33% and UK commercial real estate prices fall by 40%. The scenario also includes a sudden loss of overseas investor appetite for UK assets, a 27% fall in the sterling exchange rate index and Bank Rate rising to 4%. Major UK banks have continued to strengthen their capital positions. They started the 2018 stress test with an aggregate common equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio nearly three and a half times higher than before the global financial crisis. The global financial crisis exposed serious bank vulnerabilities in Kazakhstan. In the run up to the crisis, the economy grew at a high rate but the non-tradable sector particularly construction expanded at an unsustainable pace on the back of a surge in bank credit and an appreciating real exchange rate. Credit was financed largely through external wholesale funding and a sizeable increase in bank leverage. As the crisis erupted, external funding dried up forcing banks to deleverage aggressively. This led to a marked deceleration in non-oil economic activity and a rapid deterioration in banks’ assets. These effects were impounded by the impact of the 2009 devaluation on credit risk and banks’ external indebtedness.Item STRATEGIC SPATIAL PLANNING AND CHALLENGES FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN PORTUGAL(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Bailoa, Sandra; Cravo, PedroTourism in Portugal has been an engine of the economy during the last decade and is even considered the country's largest exporting economic activity, having achieved historical results in main indicators. The growth of this activity has produced effects in all the regions leveraging the national economy. It is important to keep in mind how to give continuity to this growth and how it fits into the spatial planning of national territory. Thus, this paper analyses the strategic challenges and the strategic instruments that have been defined as a way of planning the strategy for tourism in Portugal. The paper also presents the Portuguese territorial management system and shows how tourism planning can have an important role on the development and implementation of these instruments to achieve a sustainable regional development.Item SUCCESS DRIVERS OF REWARD-BASED CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGNS(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Bilau, José; Pires, JorgeWhile the crowdfunding phenomenon has attracted considerable practitioner and scholarly attention, existing research does not allow us to fully understand the determinants of crowdfunding campaigns performance. This is a key question within crowdfunding research to date. Using the most popular crowdfunding platform in Portugal (PPL crowdfunding), we constructed a data set to capture campaign characteristics and funding outcomes. We focused on 347 PPL campaigns initiated and ended in 2017 to test our hypotheses. Data were compiled from campaign descriptions and final result appearing on the PPL platform. This platform uses a rewards-based model where founders receive tangible, nonmonetary rewards for their contributions, often in the form of products /services, or tokens of appreciation such as thank you notes. Using a binary logistic regression model this paper investigates the factors driving a campaign’s success. Such factors include project goal (euros), duration of campaign, facebook shares, geographic distance, project comments, communication quality, type of founders and number of backers. The dependent variable is a dichotomous variable (0/1) that indicates whether a project has received the full target amount. We use this success indicator to assess whether projects that received full funding generally differ significantly from projects that did not. Our results highlight the importance of some variables related to the project and the role of social networks on funding success rewards-based crowdfunding. These conclusions offer new insights into the dynamics of rewards-based crowdfunding.Item THE CHALLENGES WOMEN FACE IN THE BLUE ECONOMY(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Sabotinova, DianaThere are four major challenges that women face in the Blue Economy: Structural - Big companies don't reach the small scale fisheries, where women usually work. Despite the fact that women provide more than 85% of the landed catch, even when investment is available it reaches men first. Sociocultural - Social attitudes frown on and punish women for being in certain spaces. Discriminatory gender and social stereotypes ban women from taking part in areas of the Blue Economy. Capacity - Women engaged in the Blue Economy lack access to capital, investments, and equipment to grow their businesses. Lack of women’s voices - Women's voices are absent in their majority.Item THE MARXIST PERIOD IN THE INNOVATIVE STUDY OF THE ECONOMIC THEORY OF RATIONAL CHOICE AND CONDITIONS FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND BUSINESSES, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE DIGITALIZATION OF THE ECONOMY(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Grigoryev, ViktorItem TRANSMEDIA STORYTELLING: TRACKING COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCES IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES OF EXPERIENTIAL MARKETING(Бургаски Свободен Университет, 2019) Alvarado-Vivas, SergioThis paper aims analyzing how narratives transmedia are taking advantage of the evolution of the consumer to prosumer. This in order to explore through various cases, citizen actions caused by credible stories with which they connect and they want to be part of. In this way, the collective intelligences and the culture of convergence leads to think beyond the technological artifacts. Transmedia storytelling is a possibility of connection, immersion and experimentation, in times where cultures industrialize with greater vigor and where people sacrifice part of their privacies allowing a brand, a social reason or a media discourse to be part of their daily life.
