Abstract

A fire is a ship accident that often turns into a tragedy. A fire is a combustion that spreads uncontrollably in time and space, characterized by the release of heat, accompanied by smoke or flames, or both. It always happens unexpectedly and for the most unlikely reason. Fires on ships are a relatively rare occurrence. (about 5-6% of all accidents), but this is a disaster with serious consequences. The critical period for fighting a fire on a ship is about 15 minutes. If during this time the fire cannot be localized and brought under control - the ship perishes. Especially dangerous are fires in engine rooms, where there are a lot of combustible materials. The main harmful factor for people during fires is not thermal radiation, but suffocation caused by the formation of thick smoke during the combustion of various materials.
