Abstract
Engineers and designers of electric and hybrid vehicles are faced with the important question of how to adequately configure the necessary powertrain components to achieve the required performance and operational goals. The main technical parameters of an electric vehicle (EV) are its battery and electric traction motor. But the link between them is a third equally important element - the power inverter. This inverter converts the high-voltage direct current from the battery into alternating current, usually three-phase, for the needs of the electric motor. This so-called traction inverter affects several parameters: the speed and torque of the traction motor. The efficiency of the inverter is also essential, influencing the power, the thermal dissipation of the inverter and the maximum range of the electric vehicle.
