Abstract
This article explores the principles, challenges, and opportunities involved in evaluating sustainability competences within the European GreenComp Framework. It reviews key theoretical models and frameworks used for competence assessment in sustainable development. The paper highlights main methodological and practical obstacles and proposes several innovative solutions, including authentic and performance-based assessment methods, mixed-method approaches, and technological integration. The study is based on findings from a broader research initiative conducted as part of the international project GreenTeach, reference number 2024-1-BG01-KA220-VET-000246431).
