Abstract
The report aims to examine some key provisions and the most recent developments regarding the composition and the work of the International Law Commission (ILC). The ILC has been established as a subsidiary organ of the United Nations’ General Assembly in 1947 and ever since has had for its object the promotion of the progressive development of international law and its codification. Among the almost 250 present and former elected members of the ILC (1949–present) there has been only one Bulgarian member, namely Prof. Alexander Yankov, who towards the end of his 20-year tenure in the ILC was profoundly respected as the Dean of the Commission
