The report presents a model for STEM education developed and piloted at Burgas Free University, which combines experimental pedagogical practices, educational robotics, and game-based approaches within a modern university learning ecosystem. The model is the result of interdisciplinary collaboration between the Center for Humanities (CH) and the Center for Informatics and Technical Sciences (CITS), integrating LEGO Education platforms (SPIKE Prime, WeDo 2.0) into both curricular and extracurricular activities. Through a series of STEM workshops and practical projects, students–future educators and engineers–acquire and apply the principles of project-based and problem based learning by working in teams, solving real-world cases, and building prototypes of intelligent systems. A key focus is placed on developing functional models using LEGO Education learning kits that merge knowledge in programming, design, electronics, and social impact. The game-based component has high motivational value and enhances both cognitive and emotional engagement. The model directly addresses the need to develop essential 21st-century competencies—critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, digital and algorithmic literacy, communication, and an innovation-oriented mindset. Moreover, it aligns with the strategic guidelines of Bulgaria’s Ministry of Education and Science, which envisions equipping all schools with STEM labs by 2026. The STEM lab at Burgas Free University functions not only as an academic setting but also as an open innovation hub, offering training to teachers, students, and external stakeholders. The presented model demonstrates the transformative potential of integrated STEM education in a university context by building a sustainable learning ecosystem capable of addressing the challenges of Economy and Education 5.0. It serves as a platform for knowledge transfer, pedagogical innovation, and the development of a regional educational culture driven by innovation and social impact.
