Abstract
This paper aims to reveal academic motivation of the first and second year students at the Faculty of Humanities, Burgas Free University. The main results of the focus group discussion with students on the topic of reasons to attend and not to attend classes have been analyzed. Additionally, a sample of 13 university teachers completed a questionnaire on students’ achievements based on their attendance and on teachers’ pedagogical methods to raise students’ activity in auditorium. The lecturers put a special accent on development of interactive education technologies such as brain storming, discussion of cases, simulations, etc.
