Abstract: The international arbitration is one of the legal means for pacific settlement of international disputes according to the United Nations Charter. From a historical perspective, international arbitration began in Antiquity alongside emergence of first States and International law itself. During that period arbitration between States did not yet have a legal nature, there was no unified legal regulation of arbitration, and arbitration per any particular dispute was conducted in a manner different from previous arbitrations. During the Middle Ages arbitration was significantly developed so that gradual formation of the legal regulation of arbitration began as a set of rules applicable to each particular instance of arbitration. The legal regime of arbitration was finally completed during XIX century when arbitration was firmly established as the main legal means for settlement of inter state disputes. In the beginning of XX century the Permanent Court of Arbitration was established.
