Abstract: The present work addresses main functionality and structure of the genetic algorithms. The sequence of characteristics of network connections is interpreted as a chromosome that defines an intrusion detection rule, whereas the very characteristics are considered as chromosome’s genies. The basic IP v-4 and IP-v6 network characteristics and their structure are provided and illustrated in examples of network connections with intrusion and without intrusion.
